Endovascular Treatment of Brain Aneurysms
A brain aneurysm is a weak spot in the brain arteries that bulge and have the potential to rupture. Aneurysms are most frequently detected between the ages of 35 and 60. They are more common in women than men.
Arteriovenous Malformation – AVM
An Arteriovenous Malformation, commonly called an "AVM" is an abnormal connection between an artery and a vein. There are two main types. One is a true "Brain AVM", the other involves the lining of the brain, a "Dural AVM". "Brain AVM" involves the blood vessels inside the brain. "Dural AVM" involves the arteries lining the brain, and may involve your eye causing it to bulge and be red, or the area around your ear and cause you to hear a "whooshing" sound like a washing machine, usually at night.
Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting
The carotid arteries supply blood to a large portion of the brain. Carotid Stenosis (or hardening of the arteries due to plaque) may cause areas of narrowing in the carotid arteries in the neck. Areas of narrowing may be detected by a physical examination and then confirmed with noninvasive imaging such as MR Angiogram, CT Angiogram, or Doppler Ultrasound.
